As you may already know, podcast (netcast) star Leo Laporte is planning a new venture! The man behind all things TWiT, is going to provide a massive 25 hours of streaming video content each week. Now, you ask anyone in programming, how challenging it is to provide an hour’s worth of fresh material each week, even with a large team, and they will tell you it’s a struggle!
He’ll never do it – or will he?
Listening to the TWiT (This Week in Tech) show last week, even some of Leo Laporte’s friends doubted if he would be able to produce so much content on such a regular basis. Now, I can see where they are coming from. If it was anyone other than Leo Laporte attempting this, you would have to say it’s got no chance. But Leo has THREE things going for him before he even starts. I think this might swing the balance in his favour!
ONE: Leo has contacts!
Leo knows most of the people in the tech industry worth knowing (and a few not worth knowing). His contact list reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of the technology world. This means he can get the right advice and support to get the thing running.
TWO: Leo has a lot of followers!
Leo Laporte’s internet shows have been gold dust – attracting hundreds of thousands of listeners. With that kind of reach, there is never going to be a problem getting great people to appear on his shows or sponsor them.
THREE: Leo has a track record of providing mass content!
Leo has been providing hours of material each week for years. This time, he is going to be doing it for a few extra hours a week, with a camera pointing at him – that’s it!
It’s also worth pointing out that this is not going to be 25 hours a week of ‘Screensavers‘ style content. Leo says; “I’ll stream whatever’s going on (usually podcast and radio show production with various intermezzos.)” It’s going to be closer to the kind of video work that Chris Pirillo has been doing successfully for years.
So, let me know what you think – Am I right, is this going to fly?
No doubt in my mind that Leo will be a success. As one of his followers, I will confess that my faithfulness to help out in any way I can will hold true. Best of Luck Leo and I Thank You for all of the dedication that you have had with this venture, since the start of TWiT.
I suppose you could have wondered the same thing about all Leo’s podcasts, and he’s pulled those off nicely. And, why not try? If he “fails” and ends up with 10 hours that fly. . .well. . .we should all be so lucky as to fail with such success. I’ll be watching.
I think it’s going to work for all the reasons in my article above. As a listener to Leo’s work, I also want it to succeed for him.
Fingers crossed!
[...] for myself yesterday evening, when Robert happened to mention an article I wrote about Leo Laporte, while we were chatting. Within 20 minutes of him ‘Tweeting’ my story on Twitter – this [...]
Laporte also has the most professional & articulate
voice in tech;if it was his desire,he could find great
success as a general talk show host, where by the very nature
of that mode;would draw 10x the audience that any tech based
show could garner. But tech programming is his passion.
