I was delighted to hear that TweetDeck, my favourite Twitter App, has managed to get funding to the tune of a cool half million dollars! TweetDeck is the brainchild of Iain Dodsworth, who decided to develop an App that would help him keep track his Twitter followers.
What is TweetDeck?
For those of you who don’t already know; TweetDeck is a cross platform, (Adobe AIR) Twitter App, which allows you to manage your network of followers. It’s also used by most of the heavily followed people on Twitter. (As @jimconnolly I use it myself, to keep in touch with 20k people who ‘follow’ me.)
Apparently, TweetDeck’s been downloaded a quarter of a million people, since it’s first incarnation in June of 2008. There’s also an iPhone version in the works!
The TweetDeck business model?
Much like Twitter itself, it seems there is no actual business model behind TweetDeck, at least at the moment. In fairness, the software is still in beta. Interestingly, in an interview with MediaMemo, Dodsworth says he would like to offer a ‘Pro’ version of the software; for so-called power users and corporations.
You can get yourself a copy of TweetDeck from here.
Nice tweetdeck rocks; especially when you know how to use it, maximize groups, twitter stream and categories… It’s definitely the best!
Scott,
It will be interesting to see what the business model turns out to be.

I’m impressed! My husband Jim has Tweetdeck and really likes it – now I’m more motivated to get it on my computer.

I’m brand new to Twitter and love TweetDeck. And am also interested in the business model. Hope it works!
I tried it when I first started to look at Twitter. Might be time to give it another shot now that I better understand Twitter and how I am using it.
Like the look of the site.
Wahooo! For tweetdecker I’m a tweetdecker and just love it. The ablility to group my followers and I just love that little bird chirp sound when I get an tweet. So may pluses with this app. Congratulations to tweetdeck.

more than 3 times went to the tweetdeck website to download it and changed my mind, after this post i just downloaded it and through my first impression and 5 minutes browsing it, i liked… thanks for the encouraging post :)
cheers!
Jean,
I use it and I love it. It seems to work best on machines that have at least 2 gig of RAM though. Otherwise, it will slow down some of your other applications. You can also follow Iain Dodsworth on twitter as @tweetdeck
Woah! That’s nice. Tweetdeck rocks 8)
Nice to hear TweetDeck will be getting even better in the future.
Moved over from Twhirl a few weeks ago for a more organised Twitter experience, very easy to use ui and has some nice intergrated features that do come in very handy once you’re fully in the Twitter groove.
Of TwitterFox, Twhirl, TwitterFon and TweetDeck it is by far the nicest to use (though ofc they are quite different).
Also sounds a little piratey which is nice :)

Been using it since I discovered it, and this can only help him get it out of beta, and develop things that would be good like, clickable links, in case someone forgets http:// etc. I’m running v0.21b so, he’s probably got a lot on his plate before he releases 1.0.
TweetDeck got half a million in funding:) http://bit.ly/WPz9
