Why Apple’s BIG announcement will disappoint many!

Everyone’s talking about the Apple Tablet, nick-named the Apple iSlate.  So, here’s a quick prediction for all those tech pundits and bloggers expecting ‘game-changing’ hardware from Apple, in their big announcement this week.

I think you “might” be disappointed!

See, I have a hunch that what we are about to see is essentially a bigger iPod touch; with a few bells and whistles because of the extra space and horsepower.  In other words, a slim, multi-touch tablet, with a beautiful display and some sweet software. Software and user experience is where I believe the magic will be.

Here’s what I think the BIG Apple story will be

I’m expecting the BIG part of the announcement to be less about the actual Apple hardware and MORE about how this new, bigger multi-touch device will encourage people to use computers in a different way.  The form factor ‘should’ be about right for a multi-user device, which would be used by the whole family to watch video, read the papers, surf and connect with the whole social media / social networking world.

It’s no secret (any more) that Apple have been speaking with newspaper / magazine publishers.  Equally, Kindle owners seem to love reading on a tablet size device – but are often frustrated at the lack of functionality.  The new Apple device will, I predict, solve that problem and offer a ton of great software features.

It’s a no-brainer that the device will look great and be slim (it’s Apple after all.)  But I genuinely feel that those just looking for the kind of amazing game-changing hardware advances made by the first iPhone will be disappointed. I think the game changing part will be the user experience.

Let’s see!

What do you think?

Get your prediction in before the big announcement and show what a total smart-ass you are!

What a weak article. No facts, no substance–in fact, nothing but negativity.

You say that the announcement will be weak because you think the tablet will be essentially a large iTouch.

You base this on… what? A thousand rumors?

Did you bother to mention that Apple has succeeded in every product rollout in the last 10 years, except for the AppleTV (which I use and love)?

Did you also bother to mention that you have nothing to go on other than your own predisposition to pessimism?

A blog post like this is a waste of my time.

      Negative?

I think the device is going to blow people away – but not because of the hardware specs; because of the design/usability.

It’s impossible to state facts on a device that’s not even officially announced yet – the fun’s thinking AHEAD of the announcement.

      Catch up!

I agree that it’s unlikely that we will see anything too jaw-droppingly-different in the hardware. Theres only so much you can do with a tablet, if that’s what it is.

I see this as you say, being more about the experience than the hardware.

I wouldn’t say this was “negative”, the guy purely states this is his opinion, rather than based on factual evidence.

There is something that will defiantly be true, no matter what the announcement is. Whatever the product, it will be way too overpriced, but still bought in droves by the Apple Zealots because they “must have it” for no discernible reason other than its made by Apple and has a shiny cover.

Hi Mo. The whole point of the post, as you and some commenters have stated, is to GUESS what’s about to be unveiled. The facts people are looking for, will start to emerge from the droves of fanboys live blogging from the announcement this week.

      Will certainly be interesting.

I think it will do everything that a normal Mac will do and sync the user to a now much needed online lifestyle. It’s more than likely to have some new features/software that I won’t be so naive to guess at. No matter what it is its 99% likely to be a huge success even if it doesn’t really bring any new tech to the table (Apart from a true multi touch screen). Apple’s main competencies lie in design, functionality and synchronicity. That’s exactly what this new product will be all about.

    Simple

Oh and by us all buying into all this hype we’re only making the new product a success. Apple has their PR down to a T. Truly world class.

Hi Tom. Your final point is spot-on. I have never seen an international company generate the kind of powerful, free pre-launch publicity as Apple.

I am and will probably always be a Windows/PC person, so I was only happy to see Apple shoot themselves in the foot with this over-sized Ipod thingy, it might appeal to some as a fashion accessory or something but it will die down quick and will be a worm in the apple to talk about in the future.

Steve Jobs is a genius but I firmly believed he failed this time, especially with the price for the gadget.
